Southwold RNLI assist yacht with mechanical failure.
Southwold’s Atlantic 85 B868 Annie Tranmer received a tasking request from HM Coastguard shortly before low tide on Wednesday 17 September and launched on service at 1.35PM to a sailing yacht at Covehithe.
Upon locating the yacht a member of the Southwold crew was transferred to the casualty vessel and worked with the yacht’s skipper to regain control.
The yacht was then escorted safely into Lowestoft harbour before the lifeboat returned to Southwold, arriving back at the boathouse at 4.00PM to be washed, refuelled and ready for service again at 4.30PM.
This was the first service for trainee crew member, Josh Jones, Josh who has recently graduated from Warsah Maritime School joined the crew in 2024.
Southwold Lifeboat Operations Manager Simon Hazelgrove said 'A fine job done by the whole crew. Seamanship and a willingness to help were essential in what turned out to be a long Shout getting the yacht to a safe haven.'
