Crosshaven RNLI rescues dog after 180ft cliff fall
At 11.35am this morning (Saturday 20 September) Crosshaven RNLI volunteers were paged to respond after a dog had fallen from cliffs east of Roberts Cove. The owner was on a kayak in the area looking for their dog.
The lifeboat with volunteer crew Aidan O'Connor in command with Dave Venner, Holly Fegan and Claire Morgan onboard, made best speed to the area about three miles south west of Roches Point.
On arrival, the owner had spotted the dog at the foot of 180ft cliffs, but was unable to reach him. Aidan and Holly waded ashore after the lifeboat navigated the rocks to be as close to shore as possible and found the animal injured, but still alive. The crew fashioned a stretcher of sorts, and made their way to the lifeboat over slippery rocks with the animal.
Once on the lifeboat, the crew took on board the owner and their kayak, before heading to Roberts Cove. The lifeboat was met by Oysterhaven Coast Guard. All at Crosshaven RNLI hope the dog makes a full recovery.
Shore crew included Derek Moynan, James Fegan, Moira Kavanagh, Alan Venner, Micheal Livingstone, Kline Pennefather, Micheal McCann and Phil Maguire. Hugh Tully was Launch Authority.
