The 35 year old former St Hild's school pupil has been a volunteer for the charity that saves lives at sea for the past 18 years.
Jamie who is also a navigator for the all weather Shannon class lifeboat said 'I've worked really hard over several months to become a helm and I'm really looking forward to playing my part in saving lives at sea on the inshore lifeboat as well as the all weather lifeboat.
The training has been really hard but thanks to the support from the volunteer crewmembers at the lifeboat station as I completed my final assessment and also a special thank you to my wife Helana and family for there support.'

Hartlepool RNLI coxswain Matt Adams said 'The inshore lifeboat helm is a very important and responsible role, often requiring sound judgement and leadership in challenging and hazardous conditions. Jamie's hard work has paid off and I am sure he will continue to develop his skills with the charity as we move on.'
