Saddles and Summits: Walmer RNLI volunteer smashes fundraising target
With less than one week to go before they set off, RNLI volunteer helm Dan Sinclair and his friend Nathan Siddans are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – cycling from John o’ Groats to Land’s End while also summiting the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales.
The duo have already smashed their fundraising target, raising an incredible £4,500 for the RNLI before even reaching the start line.
Every penny will go directly to the charity that saves lives at sea, as Dan and Nathan are covering all costs themselves.
They will set off at 6am on Monday (October 6), carrying their own kit without a support vehicle, and aim to arrive at Land’s End by Wednesday 15 October after more than 1,000 miles on the road and over 11,000 feet of climbing on foot – as they will summit Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) along the way.
Dan Sinclair said: ‘We’ve been blown away by all the support so far. To have raised £4,500 before we even set off is just amazing, and it really motivates us to push through the tough moments we know are coming.
‘Every donation helps the RNLI keep saving lives, and that’s what this is all about.’
Nathan Siddans added: “The countdown is on now – less than a week to go!
‘We’re excited, nervous, and ready to get started. The generosity people have shown has been incredible, and we hope we can make them proud by completing this challenge.’
