One Moment One Crew: See the montage

In honour of the RNLI's 200th Anniversary, on 1 August 2024, at 18:24, communities from around the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands came together in their communities for One Moment One Crew.

Large montage of over 500 images from RNLI communities, overlaid with the likeness of a sculpture that shows a person reaching down from a boat to rescue someone in the water. Text reading 'RNLI 200 years and counting'

So many RNLI people wrote in during the idea generation phase of our 200th anniversary activity planning, wanting to create a special moment to truly connect with the entire RNLI one crew during 2024. As the RNLI was founded in 1824, 1 August 2024 (1/8/24) was the appropriate date to come together as one crew.

This moment in time truly celebrated the incredible RNLI one crew of 2024.

Over 500 images of our one crew were sent into the online portal along with messages of support and celebration to the rest of the RNLI.

Thank you to everyone who took part and submitted a photo. As you scroll through the images and read through the messages you can see the passion from incredible people coming together to mark the 200th anniversary.

With the help of our incredible Creative Team, all of the photos were compiled together to create a montage image, a snapshot in time, of our one crew. This image has been overlaid with the powerful likeness of the memorial sitting outside the All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole.

The memorial was unveiled in 2009 and serves as a source of inspiration for current and future generations of lifeboat crew, lifeguards, supporters and fundraisers. Sam Holland’s sculpture, depicting a person in a boat saving another from the water, symbolises the history and future of the RNLI in its most basic and humanitarian form. Sam intended her design to be bold and simple, incorporating the elements of courage, loss and remembrance.

The image will form a large wall display in the RNLI College in Poole. It will be located in reception on the left as you go through the main doors.

You can see the image in greater detail and even save and print it.

If you want to take a more in-depth journey through the One Moment One Crew submissions, you can look through the celebration page.
