October spaces for surf therapy
We’re excited to announce that we have spaces available for RNLI volunteers and staff to attend Surfwell therapy sessions on Monday 13 October.
Have you, or someone you know within the RNLI, experienced trauma or are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms as a result of RNLI work? You or your colleague could be eligible for world-class surf therapy at Saunton Sands in Devon.
In partnership with Surfwell, the RNLI is offering surf therapy sessions for RNLI volunteers and staff. These sessions are specifically designed to support those who have been exposed to trauma while responding to incidents and may be experiencing symptoms of PTSD. The benefits of this therapy were proven during a successful pilot in July 2024 and sessions throughout 2025.
What is surf therapy?
Surfwell provides an innovative approach to mental health and wellbeing, offering individuals the opportunity to spend a day in a safe yet challenging environment. With the guidance of expert facilitators - many of whom have backgrounds in emergency services - participants will learn to surf, while also gaining valuable tools to support their mental health recovery.
