Welcome to the RNLI Families Programme

We know that behind every RNLI rescue there’s a family who have a central role in supporting our lifesaving volunteers, providing the warm welcome after a difficult shout or saving dinners left to cool when the pager sounds. It takes dedication to be part of this vital group, so we wanted to remind everyone of the support that is available through the RNLI Families Programme.

The RNLI Families Programme provides initiatives and support for the families behind every lifeboat launch. A network of volunteers, including Regional Family Support Coordinators and station-based Family Support Volunteers are on hand to provide information and support to the families of lifeboat and shore crew members.

No one understands what it’s like to have an operational lifeboat station volunteer in the family as well as other families in the same situation. You can find out how to get in touch with your volunteer Regional Family Support Coordinator by emailing [email protected], or find their details here. As well as this, you can join the RNLI Families Facebook group, where you can find support and connection with RNLI family members throughout the UK and Ireland.

If you have young RNLI enthusiasts in your life, RNLI-branded children’s crew clothing is available to buy exclusively for RNLI volunteers and staff, so your under-18s can feel part of the crew too.  Children and grandchildren of current operational lifeboat station volunteers also receive free membership of Storm Force, the RNLI’s club for children under 11 years old, receiving an exclusive membership pack and four magazines a year. Claim your free membership by calling our Supporter Experience Team on 0300 300 0063 (from the UK) or 01 511 9836 (from Ireland) or by emailing [email protected]. Please provide the name, address and date of birth of the child, plus the full name, ID number and contact details of the lifeboat/shore crew member who’s claiming the subscription.

The programme also covers an annual financial contribution to a lifeboat station family event for all members of the lifeboat station community to enjoy. Some stations host barbecues, Christmas parties or movie nights, or arrange a trip to the cinema, bowling alley, swimming pool or pantomime.

If you would like further information about any of these benefits, or would like to explore becoming a Family Support Volunteer yourself, please contact Ruth Bessant, Families Support Manager, by emailing [email protected] or by calling 07884 117369 to find out more.
