Wells RNLI joins Cromer RNLI at successful open day for Sheringham RNLI.

The event, on Sunday 11th August, was organised by the Sheringham RNLI’s volunteers who save lives at sea, to raise vital funds for the charity’s Sheringham lifeboat station and vital life-saving equipment.

The sun was shining all day for the crowds that were treated to a variety of displays by Wells RNLI Shannon class lifeboat Duke of Edinburgh , Sheringham’s Atlantic 85, Cromer’s Tamar all-weather boat and their D-Class at Sheringham Lifeboat Day.

The four lifeboats demonstrated their manoeuvrability, speed and techniques close to shore with the public getting a fantastic view of four different classes of lifeboat

Wells RNLI all weather lifeboat Navigator, Mechanic and inshore Helmsman, James Betteridge said: ‘It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to meet up with other volunteer crews along the coast, and for the public to see four classes of lifeboats on the water together and their capabilities.

'It was a nice opportunity to mark the RNLIs 200th anniversary.’


Notes to Editors:

Wells Lifeboat Station's own annual thanksgiving service is on Sunday 18th August 5:30pm with both Wells lifeboats launching and coming up to the quayside for a short service for crew, families , supporters and the wider public. Many small boats also anchor in the channel to join in.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
