
Wells RNLI inspire next generation of lifesavers
Wells RNLI dedicated volunteer visits team have been busy welcoming school groups for tours of the state-of-the-art lifeboat station and Shannon class lifeboat Duke of Edinburgh. So far this year over 270 children have visited.
Children from all over the region, including as far out as St Mary’s in Mildenhall, enjoyed hands on tours and engaging water safety talks delivered by Wells RNLI Water Safety Officer Mandy Humphreys.
Ashwicken Primary school Kings Lynn were so inspired by their recent visit to Wells RNLI they’ve chosen the RNLI as their charity of the year.
Ella year five pupil said: ‘One of the best bits was the staying safe on the beach. The lady had lots of good advice, and it was good to listen but also be able to contribute and take part.’
Mrs Shrimpson class teacher at Ashwicken primary school explained: ‘The dedicated volunteers answered the many and varied questions the children had with clear, concise and interesting knowledge. We would recommend a visit to other schools it was fabulous.’
Glenda Foster Wells RNLI Visits Officer said: ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to Ashwicken primary school for their kind offer of support and to all the schools that have visited and help us to share lifesaving knowledge and inspire the next generation of lifesavers.’

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service.
