Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers tasked to a yacht with engine failure.
At 9.26 pm on Saturday 21 June 2025 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a request from H.M. Coastguard relating to a yacht that had lost power near Gallows Point on the Menai Strait.
The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched and proceeded to locate the casualty 32-foot-long yacht which had a lone sailor aboard.
Once at the scene and having ensured that all was well with the male crew member an assessment was made by the helmsman in consultation H.M. Coastguard as to the best course of action to be taken.
It was decided that due to the wind strength and the state of the tide that the vessel would be creating a navigation hazard in the strait therefore for safety reasons the boat would be towed to a berth at Port Penrhyn being the nearest place of safety.
Once this task had been completed the lifeboat was a released by the coastguard to return to her station at 10.15 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The yacht crew did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
