HM Coastguard paged the volunteer crew of Largs lifeboat at 2:14pm on Thursday May 1 2025 to carry out a shoreline search for a possible person in the water at Wemyss Bay.

After a sleepless night for many of the volunteer crew at Largs RNLI, due to an overnight shout where two men were rescued near Inellen, the crew once again assembled at the lifeboat station.

A concerned member of the public had called 999 and reported discovering fishing equipment which appeared to be relatively new and children’s clothing on the beach.

Largs lifeboat launched and carried out a shoreline search with nothing found and were subsequently stood down by HM Coastguard.

Largs lifeboat then returned to the lifeboat station where it was cleaned, refuelled and made ready for service.

Dave Stevens, volunteer helm, said; ‘We would like to thank the person who made the call for being vigilant. We would always say if you’re in any doubt as to whether someone may be in difficulty in the water, make the call.

‘If you get into difficulty, or see someone at risk or in trouble at the coast or in the sea, you should always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
