Angle RNLI tasked to vessel in difficulty
The crew were paged at 8.59am this morning (Monday 19 May), following a call for assistance from a 11m yacht with one person onboard, struggling with the sea conditions 17 miles south-west of St Ann’s Head.
The lifeboat launched shortly after and began making best speed to the vessel, arriving on scene around 40 minutes later. After an assessment of the situation by the lifeboat Coxswain and HM Coastguard, it was decided that the safest option available was to establish a tow and take the vessel to safety. This would avoid the skipper getting into more danger with potential risk to life.
The crew rigged and passed a tow and a course was set for Dale. After a successful tow lasting just over two hours, both vessels arrived safely off Dale. With the skipper content that he could motor to a safe anchorage under his own power, the tow was dropped. With no further assistance required, the crew were stood down and returned to station where the lifeboat was readied for further service by 1pm.
In the previous week on Friday 15 May at 10.52am, the crew were paged to assist a 10m motor-vessel with five persons onboard, suffering machinery issues 0.5 miles south of Skokholm Island. As the crew were mustering, the vessels skipper confirmed that they had rectified the issue and required no further assistance. With this, the launch was subsequently cancelled.
