Wells inshore volunteer crew were paged at 7:32 pm and the inshore lifeboat, with a crew of three, launched from the north slipway at the boathouse at 7:45 pm.

On launching, the lifeboat quickly proceeded down the harbour channel and into Holkham bay.

The crew quickly identified the two people cut off at 7:52 pm and on reaching them, checked that they were well and required no medical attention. They were then brought safely aboard the lifeboat and taken back to the main beach at Lady Anne’s Drive.

At 7:58 pm the two people were met by the local Coastguard team, both were safe and well and escorted back to their car in the fading evening light. The lifeboat was instructed by HM Coastguards to stand down at 8:13 pm and returned to the Lifeboat Station for recovery.

Mandy Humphreys Wells RNLI Water safety officer said; ‘The risk of tidal cut off on the remote parts of the beaches and marshes in this area are high. Full moons are always associated with larger high tides than usual, approximately twice a month, locally known as marsh tides because much of the marshes will be flooded. As the days get shorter the risks associated with tidal cut off increase, as the light fades. Help to keep yourself safe and get back to the main part of the beach, dry sand or land at least four hours before Wells bar high tide time.’

Wells inshore Lifeboat Peter Wilcox was ashore at 8:30 pm, recovered, washed down, refuelled and ready again for service by 9:00 pm.
