Your Launch a Memory Event
Watch highlights from your Launch a Memory event, which was held at the All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole, Dorset, over the weekends (Friday-Sunday) of 4-6 and 11-13 July 2025.
It was an absolute honour to welcome so many of you and to hear your reasons for adding a loved one’s name to the Exmouth Shannon.
If you couldn’t make it, this video is especially for you, because you and your loved one were as much a part of this special event as those who were there in person.

After your Launch a Memory event, Exmouth RNLI proudly welcomed home their Launch a Memory Shannon - and the much bigger crew it now has. Opportunities to visit the station and your lifeboat will be announced on this page soon.
As Exmouth is a working lifeboat station, we kindly ask that you don’t contact the station directly with Launch a Memory queries or turn up hoping to see the lifeboat. Instead, please read our FAQs or email [email protected].
Track your Exmouth Lifeboat
Thanks to a new easy-to-use tracker, you can now see where your Exmouth lifeboat is and where it has been in the last 24 hours. You can also see the lifeboat’s speed and the sea conditions.
The tracker, which is powered by data from the lifeboat’s Automatic Identification System (AIS), is a work-in-progress, and we are constantly looking at ways to improve and develop it. The tracker works best on a mobile phone but can also be used on a tablet or desktop device. If you spot any bugs or have any ideas on how it can be improved, please let us know by using the survey tool within the tracker - thank you.
Exmouth’s retail range now available
This special range of Launch a Memory mementos for your Exmouth lifeboat are available from the online RNLI Shop and the shop at Exmouth Lifeboat Station. Whether you buy to treasure or give as a gift, these mementos act as a constant reminder that your loved one is beside the Exmouth lifeboat crew, every time they launch to save lives at sea.

Read Will's Story
Remembering the one we lost
On Christmas Day 1956, Volunteer Crew Member Will Carder made the ultimate sacrifice after being swept overboard by a 6m-wave in a ferocious south-easterly gale. It was the first and last time an Exmouth lifeboat volunteer was lost to the sea in the town’s 222-year lifesaving history.
As a tribute to Will, who was the landlord of local pub The Volunteer, Whitbread had a new pub sign painted depicting Exmouth’s lifeboat Maria Noble and a portrait of Will. When the pub was later demolished, the sign was moved to the lifeboat station, where it proudly hangs today, right next to your Launch a Memory lifeboat.
Will’s memory will also live on through the Shannon because his name is also on the lifeboat, alongside the name/s of your loved one/s.

Exeter artist creates a drawing of Exmouth Lifeboat
This coloured pencil drawing called 'Shannon on the Beach' was created by artist Nick Langdon. It depicts the Exmouth lifeboat 13-03 driving up onto Exmouth Beach, ready to be returned to the boathouse by the Shannon launch and recovery system (SLARS).
You can buy the drawing from the RNLI Photostore, where you can choose to have it as a print, canvas, card, jigsaw puzzle and more. The money raised from the sale of this artwork will go towards saving lives at sea.

Meet Riley: Exmouth’s very own station dog
Meet Riley: Exmouth’s very own station dog
This handsome chap is Riley, and he belongs to one of the Exmouth crew. Riley likes to be close to the action and is always interested in what’s going on. He loves the water – in fact, the team have a job to keep him out of it!
He’s also a bit of a therapy dog. When the crew get called out to some tough shouts, Riley is always at the other end to lend a listening ear and provide the crew with the comfort they need.
Riley is proud to have his name on Exmouth’s Shannon, alongside the names of many other beloved pets.

You can now buy a lifesaving printed keepsake to commemorate the special person you’ve remembered or celebrated on the Exmouth Shannon class lifeboat 13-03. Design-wise, you can choose the individual letter or number that your loved one’s name is in, or the full lifeboat decal.
