Wells RNLI inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox launched at 2:05pm following a 999 call, in which the woman explained she was stranded with her dog on the far side of the harbour channel near the boathouse, with the tide beginning to flood in.

The volunteer crew quickly located the woman and her dog and safely ferried them across the channel, landing them back safely one the main beach at 2:12pm.

With numerous groups of people still out on the sands to the west of the harbour channel and along the foreshore, the crew conducted a precautionary sweep of the area.

One group was given water safety advice and directed to walk off the sandbar before the tide cut them off. Inshore lifeboat Peter Wilcox remained on scene for a short time to ensure no further assistance was required.

The lifeboat returned to station at 2:40pm and was cleaned, refuelled and made ready for service again by 3:00pm.
